Dinner gatherings with this group of friends are typically pot luck in one of our humble homes, with everyone cooking up a storm.
Last weekend, we ended up at Casse-Croûte by Chef Patrick Heuberger (Previously Executive Chef and Part-Owner of Le Bistrot Du Sommelier) because it is located right at the doorsteps of one of our friend’s condominium!
In this unassuming little eatery nestled in the clubhouse of Park West Condo, we had the most delightful french fare ever in a casual unpretentious setting (with all of us in shorts and t-shirts). As we had quite a large group, we had to make reservations and literally occupied the entire restaurant except for another 4 seater which was very soon taken up by a family.
Table was laid nicely upon arrival
First up was the Charcuterie (cold cuts) Platter. We loved the cold duck sausage with foie gras and pistachio nuts.
Served with lovely baguette, which ended up as baby J’s main course 🙂
Yes, this is definitely not very french and not on the menu. It was specially ordered for the children.
Seasonable White Asparagus. Simply drizzled with olive oil, onions and parsley but tasted so good.
Duck Leg Confit. One friend claimed that this was the best version she has ever tasted! True enough, I totally enjoyed it although I have never been a huge fan of duck. The meat just fell apart tenderly from the bone. A must-try.
Slow cooked Pork Ribs. Another winner with its tender meat. They were so yummy I could possibly finished one whole potion by myself! Another must -try.
My favourite for the night. The côte de boeuf was so juicy and tender. Heavenly. (I am drooling as I am posting this photo!)
40 Garlic Cloves Oven Roasted Kampung Chicken. Not that exciting but the meat was truly infused with the subtle nutty flavour of garlic.
I was undecided about this one. For a sausage lover, this was a tad too milky for me without the meaty bite. It was made with milk after all 🙂
Gratin of Potatoes and Ratatouille in the background. Nice comfort food.
For dessert, these Profiteroles were charming. Rich and chocolatey treats made us all very happy 🙂
The creme caramel and prunes in Armagnac served in cute little jars (as they were packed for take-aways too) did not disappoint too. Full flavoured and delightful to end the meal with.
Here were the wines that accompanied us through this lovely dinner. They are so much more reasonably priced than the typical french restaurants. And the selection is actually quite good.
And here is the man behind the wonderful creations.
Chef working on his craft in the kitchen.
And posing with the Chef was baby J, piggy and me 😛
With limited seating capacity, take-outs and delivery makes up the other part of the business. And what’s great is that everything is freshly made in-house. I am sure we will be heading there again soon…
